VARIOUS RECOMMENDATIONS
For shit you can watch, read, hear, or play, in that order. There's also a bookmarks section at the bottom but thats just for me really... it'd be weird if you looked... haha jk I don't care. Or do I..? I don't lol.
STUFF 2 WATCH
SWISS ARMY MAN
- A mental absurdist story about overcoming societies barriers and finding your own happiness in this messy little life. Lots of fart jokes, made me cry like a bitch.
WRISTCUTTERS: A LOVE STORY
- Three unlikely friends go through a roadtrip in suicide limbo for various reasons. A man falls into a black hole hidden under a carseat. Utterly beautiful.
NOPE (2022)
- There's no way to encapsulate this movie in so few words. It has aliens, cowboys, balloons, man-eating chimpanzees, horsies, Keke Palmer, and he got that hobby weed.
EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE
- I am the furthest thing from the target demographic for this movies message and it still brought me to ugly tears. A must watch for maximalist movie fans.
THE SUBSTANCE
- It is grotesque, it is glamourous, it is a two-hour long blood-covered beauty pageant where the star is everything that you hate about yourself. WATCH THIS MOVIE.
THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE
- The Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies are of course iconic and classic cultural films, but they're also just plain fun. Enjoy twenty minutes of straight screaming.
HUMAN TRAFFIC (1999)
- Despite being the same age as the cast in Cardiff twenty-five years later, I'm sure I've lived this movie out frame-for-frame with my mates. A banger!
BRASSIC
- A gang of twenny-summin-year-old thieves from the valleys and their shenanigans. Made me cry many times. So many dick jokes. Absolutely perfect telly It is so good I love Vincent.
STUFF 2 READ
RUNNING WITH SCISSORS
- by Augusten Burroughs. A memoir about his childhood that, upon reading it at the tender age of 14, changed my life forever and restructured the way I see the world and my life.
HOUSE OF LEAVES
- by Mark Z Danielewski. An utter absurdist brainfuck and one of the most fun books you will ever read. Feels like a homework assignment to wrap your head around.
AMERICAN PSYCHO
- by Brett Easton Ellis. The book is leaps and bounds better than the movie and gives proper insight to what a fucking loser Patrick Bateman actually, genuinely is.
SELLEVISION
- by Augusten Burroughs. One of Burroughs' fictional novels, but reads exactly like one of his memoirs. About a grimy American teleshopping studio and the people who work there.
DREAMCATCHER
- by Stephen King. Shockingly intimate for what it is, an alien invasion novel. Had me gripped and genuinely caring for this friendgroup like I was a member. Absolutely disgusting.
THE ADVENTURE ZONE GRAPHIC NOVEL
- by The McElroys and Carey Pietsch. It's the podcast translated into a comic, and it translates well. Perfect read if you enjoyed the original story.
DUNGEON MESHI
- by Ryoko Kui. A downright magical manga with incredible worldbuilding, fantastic characters and a plot to die for. What I wouldn't give to reread for the first time again.
METAMORPHOSIS
- by Franz Kafka. Obviously this is a classic that everybody should give a go atleast once, but it's also a beautiful story of being othered that many can relate to.
STUFF 2 HEAR
HARLEY POE
- My favourite band in the world. A mix of personal belief anthems and cult-classic horror movie inspired folk tunes, Joe Whiteford uses his ukulele like a weapon.
AJJ
- I first heard the song Brave As A Noun at about thirteen or fourteen, and it told me everything I needed to hear to stop trying to kill myself.
AMIGO THE DEVIL
- In spite of being one of the driving forces behind my longest relationship breaking down, good god Danny manages to make my heart ache with his lyrics.
DAYS N DAZE
- When you think of crustpunk, you think of homeless van-travelling drug users with DIY instruments and patch-ridden clothes. This is Days N Daze.
LAURA JANE GRACE
- She's hard and fast and rough around the edges, she's the frontwoman of Against Me! and my first punk crush that caught my little transpunk heart.
INSANE CLOWN POSSE
- Look man sometimes you just need to be white trash and lipsync to two juggalos rap about killing people in silly clownish ways. For your soul.
PASSENGER OF SHIT
- Do you like awful sounding noisegrind that gets you bopping your head before you even realise you're listening to audiovomit? Check out this guy!
STUFF 2 PLAY
PORTAL SERIES
- Oh my god what a beautiful game series. Despite being a little more than a puzzle-solver, this game will grab you by the heart and wrench until it bursts. A top ten of all time.
SUNSET OVERDRIVE
- Bouncy, fast-paced, hilarious and silly, Sunset Overdrive is the zombie killing game for anybody who thinks they could survive a zombie outbreak with ease.
ULTIMATE TIC TAC TOE
- Like if they made a tic tac toe version of 5D chess. You've really got to think about your moves it's so fucking addicting?
CARRION
- I could quite happily spend hours just fucking around on this game, the movement mechanics are so fun and slippery BUT THEN YOU ALSO GET PUZZLES!!! I like puzzles.
GRAND THEFT AUTO V
- Everyone knows this game, but not everybody appreciates the story. It's such a beautiful plotline with so many interesting missions and scenarios, one of my favourite games.
THE SIMS 4
- It's so simple but so perfect. I love playing with my virtual dollshouse. I made Juno and his flat hehe
